The two famous ice products on this island, the Hawaiian shave ice and the Taiwanese snow ice.
Texture:
Hawaiian shave ice: granulated, sometimes chewable
Taiwanese snow ice: sheet/flake-like, melts in mouth
Flavor:
Hawaiian shave ice: syrup on top of ice, with hundreds of choices
Taiwanese snow ice: usually with the ice (use soy milk to make ice instead of water), less variety of flavor
Toppings:
Hawaiian shave ice: azuki beans, mochi balls, condensed milk, waffle cone...
Taiwanese snow ice: real fruits, mochi, jelly, azuki beans
They both are really good, Hawaiian shave ice has more flavor and taste, while Taiwanese snow ice has a smoother texture and various topping to choose from.

I love Taiwanese snow ice and recently it's becoming a boom in Japan too. I have never tried Hawaiian shave ice but it seems it's similar to Japanese shave ice. Do you have any favorite store in Hawaii?
回复删除matsumoto's shave ice is the most famous shave ice on the island, it is worth a try, but if you want some place closer in town you can try shimazu's
删除I've tried both, and I love those two! I want to have taiwanese snow ice again soon:)
回复删除Personally I like hawaiian shave ice better because the texture feels better on my tongue lol. I tried snow ice once before and it just didn't feel right to me, it had a weird feeling and im not sure if i would eat it again.
